Meet Mahjie: How the Mahjong Mascot Came to Life

If you've been around a mahjong table lately, you already know-mahjong isn't just a game anymore. It's an entire experience.

The tablescapes are getting more fabulous, the accessories more colorful, and game night has become an event all its own. Mahjong needs a mascot.

And that is how Mahjie The Mahjong Mascot came to life.

A Little Whimsy Was Missing From the Table

As a designer, I'm always looking at the whole picture. I love seeing how people put together their mahjong tables—the colors they choose, the tiles they play with, the mats they coordinate, and all those little details that turn an ordinary game into something special.

But I felt like there was one thing missing.

A good-luck charm. A table companion. A little bit of mischief.

Mahjie began as my answer to that.

I imagined her as whimsical, colorful, playful and just a little quirky. She needed to have personality. She needed to look like she belonged right there among the Jokers, Dragons and Craks.

Most importantly, she needed to make you smile.

And Then Mahjie Needed Her Own Accessories

Once Mahjie came to life, I quickly realized that a mascot this much fun couldn't stop at just a little posie doll.

Mahjie needed accessories. She needed giftable goodies. She needed all the fun little extras that would let her personality spill over onto the rest of the mahjong table.

And just like that, Mahjie created a line of her very own.
